Devin Dierks, LISW

Iowa City Therapist

We will be a great fit if you are feeling depressed, overly worried, have low self-esteem and intrusive, negative thoughts, or have been through traumatic experiences that continue to bother you. Not only can I help you process what is going on in your inner world, but I will also provide you with the skills you need to manage emotions daily. I specialize in treating interpersonal trauma such as sexual assault, abuse, and domestic violence, but also work with depression, anxiety, disordered eating, relationship issues, and life transitions.

My office is a safe space for all.

If you are interested in working with a therapist who is highly trained yet laid back in personality, please contact us today.

My Approach to Psychotherapy ....

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which will help you focus on accepting the ups and downs of life while creating meaningful goals to keep you moving forward. In a session, we may use gentle movement, meditation, and breathing techniques, if you feel comfortable. You will have complete control over your treatment, and we will work together to find what helps you most.

If you are seeking healing from trauma, whether it be a one-time event or a pattern of abuse, I may
also utilize Accelerated Resolution Therapy in your treatment plan. Similar to EMDR, Accelerated
Resolution Therapy includes the use of eye movements to help you process information, particularly
the emotions that linger with traumatic memories. We will work together to help you "keep the
knowledge, lose the pain". This means that although you'll never forget what happened to you, we can
often ease the emotional burden that you carry.

Other methods I often use include Gottman Method techniques for couple's counseling and narrative
therapy for those who may enjoy journaling as an outlet for gaining insight into the self.
