I have been a psychologist for over 20 years, practicing in Vancouver, Miami, Virgin Islands and most recently in Iowa City. I am the founder of Rein Center and have offered holistic approach to psychotherapy in both Canada and the US. Mostly recently, I open Rein Center Iowa City, across from Mercy Hospital.
I am trained in many modalities of therapy including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral but I also use more experiential treatments such as EMDR for releasing patterns and traumas that are stuck and resistant to talk therapy. I have had many client express a "WOW" when an issue that has haunted them for decades releases in a matter of hours. I also incorporate other modalities including yoga, meditation, mindfulness and a strong understanding of functional medicine, nutrition, naturopathy and Chinese medicine into my approach. In doing so, my clients tend to feel relief that they are receiving an integrated point of view that truly looks at them as a whole person rather than just their symptoms.
I offer counseling and psychotherapy for the treatment of depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress, trauma, PTSD, stress related illness as well as couples counseling, marital therapy, family therapy. I am trained as both an adult psychologist and a child / adolescent psychologist. My approach to therapy is goal oriented and slightly directive. What this means is that it is rare to hear me just say "hmm". I will provide you with lots of psycho-educational information, feedback, coping tools, and help you to identify the root causes of your distress and heal them. I will explain to you, from a psychological theoretical framework what is going on and I will also help you to understand from a more holistic viewpoint. Within the first couple of sessions I tend to provide both insight into why you are feelings distressed and a treatment plan for how we will work together to bring about meaningful and lasting change. I encourage my clients during the process of therapy to have a say in the work that we will do together and I will guide you to be active in-between session to continue your therapeutic work through meditation, reading or other activities such as yoga, exercise, journaling, and healthy eating.
I also have some meditations recorded that will be available to you to help with anxiety, relaxation, mindfulness, chronic pain and insomnia. Lastly, my clients and I usually also have a laugh and work on finding joy, happiness, and deeper meaning to their lives.
But the truth is most of us are very disconnected from our truth, our essence, our core being and most of us are fairly proficient at talking circles around what deeply pains us. My job is to hold the mirror, so that my clients can see deeper into themselves in a safe, and very nurturing environment. I am also a dedicated yogi and yoga instructor.
The meaning of life and how to live fully inspires me to learn and grow on a daily basis. Truth, honesty, passion, playfulness, authenticity, acceptance, gratitude, essence, patience, tolerance, gentleness...frequent my vocabulary. It is my personal hope that guests at the Rein Center will find greater meaning, live more fully and move towards the truest essence of their being.
I have been a therapist for over 20 years. I offer a holistic approach to therapy that aims to help you attain meaningful, lasting change. I also teach yoga and meditation and incorporate techniques such as mindfulness mediation, breathing exercises, and mind-body awareness into my treatment approach.
