Dr. Lisa Mathews

Licensed Psychologist

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who was raised in small town in Iowa and have practiced in a rural area for the last five years. I have a variety of clinical experiences, including conducting psychological assessments and providing individual, family, group, and marital therapy. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and believe in the power of creating change through learning awareness of thought patterns and how they contribute to our emotions and behaviors. I am especially interested in mind/body connection and am excited to work in a practice in which the body is treated as a whole. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have a strong interest in meditation practices.

My therapeutic interests include;

  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Addiction
  • Life transitions (i.e., divorce, empty nesting)
  • Grief and loss (i.e., the death of a loved one, infertility, loss of a dream)
  • Identity development
  • Family and marital conflict

My Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northwestern College
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
  • Predoctoral Intern at Central Texas Internship in Clinical and Forensic Psychology
  • Postdoctoral Internship at Big Spring State Hospital

I believe...

... each individual has the ability to heal, and I strive to create an environment in which you feel safe and equipped in this process. I also believe that each individual is in charge of their own treatment and everyone's journey looks different. I will work collaboratively with you to find what works best for you as we navigate your journey together.
